As opening night of Fox Valley Rep Youth Ensemble’s production of Cinderella draws near, rehearsal has entered the final stages. This week, the cast began rehearsing on the stage. Most nights we are running through the entire performance twice. We are all very excited to see it coming together.
Also this week, the cast had fittings for their costumes. It was a lot of fun to see what we will be wearing on stage.

Rehearsal for Cinderella began about 2 weeks ago, and I must say they are going great! So far we have learned a variety of songs like the classic “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” and new songs like “The Prince is Giving a Ball”. From waltzing to a possible salsa type dance during the bows, the cast is learning all different types of dance to add to our show. The auditions were originally meant for 6th through 12th grade but this show was opened up to some younger kids, who will be shining stars in their parts as the mice. One of these mice, Kaia Ebel, 10 years old and a 4th grader, said that she only knew one person coming into the show and now she knows a lot and has made a ton of new friends. Sophia Prette, another mouse, 13 years old and an 8th grader, said that this show is helping improve her dancing and she loves “mouse camp”. The cast has also been practicing in character shoes that they will be wearing during the performance. Even in the early stages of rehearsal, I can see the show coming together and I know that the ending product will be fantastic!!

MEET EMILY WHALEY
Age: 12
Role: Clooney/Mouse
What is your favorite thing about your character?
I get to have time with Cinderella
What is the hardest part of doing this show?
Not being needed at all of the rehearsals and not being able to sing much.
What is the best part of being in this show?
Everybody acts professional.
To those who are not in the show, could you explain where you are in the rehearsal process right now?
We’re doing full runs of the show which means we start at the beginning and go through to the end. Next week is tech week and then we get to wear our costumes and use our props.
What is the hardest part of the rehearsal process (ex: first day, dancing, dress rehearsal, tech, opening show, etc)?
The hardest part is saying goodbye to everyone when the show is over.
MEET KEVIN CHLAPECKA
Age: 13
Role: Astaire
What is your favorite thing about your character?
My favorite thing about my character is that even though he can screw up sometimes, Kaye and the Prince can always trust him.
What is the hardest part of doing this show?
The hardest part about doing this show is that there are only two boys in the primary cast and ensemble!
What is the best part of being in this show?
The best part about being in Cinderella is having fun with my friends and learning how to improve on my acting skills at the same time.
How do you memorize your lines?
I get together with people from the cast and review the script until I get the lines down.
To those who are not in the show, could you explain where you are in the rehearsal process right now?
Right now the cast is getting ready for tech week where we run the show and only stop for technical reasons. The directors will not give us are lines if we forget and if we do we have to improvise.
What is the hardest part of the rehearsal process (ex: first day, dancing, dress rehearsal, tech, opening show, etc)?
The Hardest part is the first rehearsal. You see people you don’t know and aren’t familiar with the script.
