LtoR: Frank Paul, Courney Crouse, Mike Arthur, Edward Fraim and Robert Deason are the ALTAR BOYZ!??

This show has been such a refreshing experience. I don’t think I have worked with a cast that can goof around as much as we do and accomplish the amount we have. Everyone was so excited for the show and ready to work that in the first 5 hours of rehearsal we were able to learn every musical number and take time to play around with each song. Just like how every guy fits into a mold onstage, backstage is the same. We each add something to the conversation and share the center of attention equally. I haven’t laughed this much in a long time! I’m already sad to be closing and we haven’t even opened yet. It’s been a great experience thus far and I can’t wait to get an audience in the theater to let them in on the fun we’ve been having.

After a long tech weekend, I still can’t believe that we start previews in two days. This entire rehearsal process has literally flown by. I consider myself so lucky to be in the company of such talented guys. Our combined drive and dedication have made this such an awesome process. I’m so excited to start performing for audiences. This is definitely the type of show that will continue to evolve and change as the run goes on. Come check us out!

Altar Boyz is different from any other show I’ve done. It is a brilliant show to see live, and it definitely holds its own in the world of contemporary musical theater. At first glance, Altar Boyz is a high energy, screw ball musical that simply brings to the table an exciting night at the theatre. But as an actor, it actually gives you quite a challenge. Because it is a “show within a show” you are presented with certain tasks, like deciding when to act as though an action is planned or spontanious, or giving it truth and honesty because although the audience may laugh at them, they are dedicated to what they are doing. This allows you to take the skeleton of the character provided and make it youre own. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of.

We’ve just completed 3 weeks of rehearsal, these boyz are ready for their final dress and preview performances this week! The show has come together nicely, and I think you’ll be really impressed with the final result. During the initial rehearsal process, I had a chance to record the guys learning the songs. Take a look at some of the clips, then sound great!

The guys also had a chance to perform in front of an audience this past weekend. The Altar Boyz made a surprise appearance at the St. Charles Sisters Weekend Pajama Party, where the guys got to perform a couple numbers from the show. The women loved it!! Take a look!

Hello,

Today we are starting rehearsals for ALTAR BOYZ. Everyone is very excited to get started. We have seven very talented Chicago actors with us on this production. We are rehearsing on the top floor of a church in Chicago. Which I am sure you can see is very appropriate. ??As I am writing this, our Music Director, Brett Rowe is beginning work on the music score. This involves all the actors sitting around the piano and going through the songs one by one so that everyone knows their part. I can tell you it all ready sounds great. We will work on music the rest of the day. Our great design team will then come in later in the day and present their concepts for set, lights, sound, costume and props so that everyone is on the same page as we move forward. In a few days we will post some video of the work we are doing in rehearsals. I will send an update soon. In the meantime if you have any questions, just drop us a line. We are very excited for you to see our?? production.
